Seismic Monitoring

Acoustics are used widely in the oil industry to assist in the exploration of the fields and the extraction of oil from those fields. The Holy Grail for the oil industry is to be able to "see inside" an oil reservoir in real time.

Todays technology allows an operator to create a snap shot of what is happening inside a reservoir. After many hours of computer processing this snap shop can be turned into a 3D model.

The problem with this approach is that a boat will have to sail over the oil field "letting off" a series of acoustic explosions. This can take hours or even days to perform.

The Portland Horn™ offers an alternative and better solution.
